Al-Mana’s educational journey took him to the United Kingdom, where he graduated with honors in Film and TV Production from Keele University. “I was pleased to receive a country-sponsored scholarship to study filmmaking abroad in the United Kingdom,” he shares. This opportunity aligned perfectly with Qatar’s Vision 2030, which aims to localize the film production industry. The comprehensive education he received equipped him with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute significantly to Qatar’s cultural and creative sectors. A specific mentor or course that guided him remains unnamed, but the overall experience was pivotal in shaping his career.

Filmmaking, for Al-Mana, is not just a profession but a calling. “Filmmaking offers a huge opportunity to create awareness and really touch people,” he says. The dynamic and creative nature of the industry, encompassing scriptwriting, pre-production, production, post-production, and marketing, fascinated him. Films, he believes, have the power to showcase a country’s culture on a global stage, and this belief fuels his passion to create impactful, culturally rich narratives.

Current Projects: Bridging Cultures Through Film

Currently, Al-Mana is working on several projects. Two films are in post-production: “Art of Life 2023,” filmed in London, and “The Road 2023,” a collaboration with the Doha Film Institute. Another exciting project in pre-production focuses on the Arabian Bisht (traditional clothing), highlighting Qatari culture and history. This film, set to be shot in Doha, embodies Al-Mana’s goal to create stories that bridge cultures and resonate with diverse audiences.

Challenges and Trends: Navigating the Film Industry

Filmmaking is not without its challenges. One significant hurdle is casting the right actor, especially in a region where the pool of actors is limited. Additionally, the research phase for films can be extensive, as seen with his upcoming film “Commitment is an Act, Not a Word 2024,” which took six months of research based on studies from the National Institutes of Health.

Al-Mana sees a promising future for the film industry in Qatar, driven by the Vision 2030 initiative. Institutions like the Doha Film Institute play a crucial role by providing training, funding, and support to aspiring filmmakers, helping them compete on a global scale.

Impact and Advice: The Power of Film

Al-Mana firmly believes in the transformative power of films. “Filmmaking offers a huge opportunity to create awareness about important social, political, and environmental issues. It touches people’s emotions and provides them with motivation to change their behaviors and prompt them to take action in their lives,” he explains. His advice to aspiring filmmakers is to build strong teamwork, as filmmaking is inherently collaborative. “The better team you build, the better results you will receive,” he advises.

Abdulrahman Al-Mana’s journey is a beacon of inspiration for aspiring filmmakers, reflecting how passion, education, and a clear vision can turn dreams into reality.
